I went to the April 2014 meeting to meet new people and listen to the key speaker (Jerel Bonner 马扬). I was a little surprised when I was invited to come and told it would be free, but upon arrival I was told that guests should pay 180 RMB, oops.

It was nice meeting others. There were many new people that night, and the food samples were good snacks, but not meal replacements.

The business introductions were interesting but the key speaker (Jerel Bonner 马扬) just rambled for 1 hour without any novel points. He literally told the audience to read books and asked if they had heard about "TED talks before". I felt like his points were all undermining the intelligence of his audience, especially after he said he didn't want to do "teaching" as if it were a lowly position. He clearly doesn't understand Chinese culture!

The original Qingdao Business Leaders Association (QBL) was a place where local foreign business leaders and entrepreneurs shared their experience and knowledge with round table discussions about doing business in China rather than presentation speakers "hawking their services & merchandise".

The Qingdao International Business Association (QIBA) is more of a Chinese social networking club than a knowledge base. The QIBA pre-presentatio n "Networking @ Cocktail Hour" is one of several ways to meet others "Doing Business in Qingdao".

Perhaps the best way to network with others doing business in Qingdao would be to join the LinkedIn groups mentioned above (The Qingdao Network - 1,100+ members, Qingdao Business Network - 650+ members).
