My husband needs to have a small growth removed above his eye and plastic surgery to repair the skin. Does the International Clinic of Qingdao Municipal Hospital provide this kind of service? Or, perhaps you can recommend another hospital that can do this.

The Municipal hospital is big and they probably also have an eye department with plastic surgeons.

There is also a specialized eye hospital down the road from the municipal hospital. I don't know the full address but it's about 400m away, on the junction of YanErDao Road and ZhuHai Road. Keep in mind that hospital probably won't have English speaking staff and maybe is more profit oriented.

The Qingdao Municipal Hospital provides one of the best expat health services in the country. The staff are professional and caring and you would be impressed with the western doctor, but you must arrive there early before 9:00am to ensure an appointment. Very cost effective! Highly recommended!

I am a 65 year old American considering taking a job in Qingdao. What is the relative cost for medical treatment in Qingdao as compared to those expected in the United States? Also how does medical treatment quality compare to that in the united states?

Hello Terrance,I am not sure about the exact cost for treatment in Qingdao but I believe that in general it is rather cheap here. Simple things won't cost you a lot and also dental work is cheaper than abroad. The quality that I received from the international hospital and other doctors was good. The international clinic was the designated hospital during the Olympic Games, so a lot of money was spent to upgrade the facilities. Doctors and nurses can speak English. There should also be direct billing available so that your medical insurance can cover the cost in a more convenient way. And if you're a bit more adventurous or just have something small, then a Chinese doctor can take care of you for just a few RMB.

Medical treatments?? do you mean the cost of medicine or the procedure, well its very cheap. The Blood Routine Examination cost you around 120 RMB, X-ray ranges from 80 RMB to 130 RMB, CT scan costs 300 RMB, and MRI costs 900RMB. The cost of medicine depends on the brand of the Company. Be careful of fake medications, generics with low quality! Some generic medications are very good quality and inexpensive, so one can easily be cheated if you buy in local shops. The medications used in hospital are authentic top quality and a bit more expensive.
