Mayor of China’s Sailing City, Xia Gang, opened the 2010 International Sailing Week in the Qingdao International Marina & Olympic Sailing Center at a ceremony on Saturday afternoon and kicked off a week of sailing events and forums to help promote Qingdao’s sailing culture and show its ongoing commitment  towards future international sailing events.

The international teams participating in this year’s Mayor’s Cup set a course for Dalian today around 5:00pm after a late start.  After reaching Dalian teams will participate in one or two in-port races before preparing for the start of the Mayor’s Cup Dalian-Qingdao International Regatta.

The regatta has an open class and a One-design Class consisting of 10 Beneteau First 40’s purchased by Qingdao City.  Teams will compete against others in their respective class for a €14,000 purse.

The 2010 Lushang Cup will bring daily sailing race action every afternoon during August 22nd - 24th as well as the Qingdao International Boat Show August 21st - 23rd.

Sailing in Qingdao – International Boat Show (Sailing Week 2010):
Would you happen to know if any boats are short on crew? I am working in Shanghai, started sailing as a kid in 1970, graduated as a Naval Architect, and have raced extensively in Argentina and Brazil. I sail and race my own 32-footer fractional rigged sloop in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
