WMRTSailing in Qingdao, June 2010
With the addition of the ISAF World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) series, Qingdao is now China's premier sailing city. After successfully hosting the 2008 Olympic Sailing events, Qingdao has also been a stopover for several international sailing events which have included the Volvo Ocean Race 08-09 along with continuing support as a racing team in The Clipper Around the World Yacht Races. Following August's Qingdao Beer Festival and Sailing Week, the ISAF World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) series is set to stop in Qingdao during October 2010. A five year contract, signed on June 15th will bring these events to the sailing city for the next five years.

Qingdao's opportunity to be associated with a global sporting brand such as the ISAF World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) will bringing match racing, similar to that of America's Cup, to China. This should annually attracts hundreds of thousands of onsite/virtual and television spectators to the China's sailing city.

As Qingdao's marine industry continues to grow, grass root level programs such as CYBP's youth sailing summer camps and Welcome On board (WOB) weekend sailing regattas for family and friends have further secured Qingdao’s place as China's premier sailing city.
