Ratskeller Restaurant serves German and Austrian dishes (the usual sausages, schnitzel and potatoes) and more. The sausages are from DEFA and according to German recipes and standards. There's a big outdoor terrace where you can enjoy Tsingtao beer for RMB 10 and where they have BBQs on weekends. It's a bit out of the way and the price might be a bit high compared to other places (RMB 40 - 60 for one dish) but the surroundings are unbeatable. Good pitstop for anyone who's doing sightseeing in the old town.

We were really surprised to find such a good German restaurant in China. We ordered schnitzel (Vienna style) with roasted potatoes and sausages with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. It was absolutly delicious, there was a nice athmosphere and the stuff is very friendly. In addition to that the location on the hill is marvelous and by itself worth to visit. You won't regret having a delightful meal up there! Thx a lot to 'Ratskeller' for the very good german food and the exceptional hospitality.

Ratskeller German-Austrian Restaurant was disappointing: Food only average, really average. Service poor. Ambiance, not at all. No white beer ...

I know other, much better German restaurants in China (Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai) they are doing much better, with better surroundings.

Sorry to say that, but Ratskeller German-Austrian Restaurant is really not authentic and not worth it.
