Notes:
Qingdao Beer Museum, located East of ChuShuiShan Children's Park and south of Taidong on Qingdao Beer Street, is China's oldest brewery (1903) and a favorite tourist destination. A trip to Qingdao would not be complete without a Tsingtao Brewery tour where one can observe the oldest working Tsingtao Brewery in action as well as taste fresh brew straight from the production line.

Qingdao - very interesting, Qingdao has a lot of German History from 1898-1915. My Grandfather in his younger years ( around 1900) was a Marine in the Navy of Kaiser Wilhelm II. In 1902 his division was sent to Qingdao, a German Colony, under the command of Field Marshal Graf von Waldersee to clarify unrestin that area(Boxerausta nd). Qingdao area was leased first to Germany (1898-1915)and then to Japan (1915-1922). On the 6 March 1898 Germany signed the leased first over 99 years, but at the beginning of the First World War the lease was terminated. The journey from Germany to China took about 8 weeks one way by sailing ship. I still have a cup and saucer from from that journey ( Made in China). Cheers, Hermann Schmidt.

Sehr geehrter Herr Schmidt,

Hello, I was wondering if there was a guided tour for the brewery or is it more a self guide factory? If there is a guide, do they speak English?

Yes, there are guides in the factory who speak English, but its more of a self guided factory tour where you can see all information printed in English.

Yeah you can, but you need to call and make the arrangement first. You'll be allowed to use the bar downstairs.

The Tsingtao Beer Museum also has a bar called the Tsingtao Brewery Bar, and I do think you can host a reception there, give them a call and ask for details.

Qingdao (Tsingtao) Brewery Museum: My name is Christiane Krapp. My grandfathers name was Wilhelm Mahlke. He made a design for the Germania Brauerei in Tsingtao 1905 which was nominated. It is called Master Luxi. It is on on parchment paper, the sizes are 60 cm x 30 cm. It might be of interest for you if you show some of the history of your brewery. Please let me know if you are interest in this document. I also have the telegram saying this. Sincerely, Christiane Krapp.

Qingdao (Tsingtao) Brewery Museum: Hello Christiane, That is very interesting to hear but maybe the brewery folks here will not stumble across the post. You can email me at c_liptau [at] hotmail.com and then I can get you in touch with some other Germans in Qingdao that are involved with local history and have contact to the local government. I am from Germany as well, so you can write in German :-) Bis bald, Christopher.
